Why is my cat limping, can't jump, and has black tarry stool?

Hi and thanks for posting. If you feel Jasper is experiencing pain in one of his legs, the best thing to do would be to have him evaluated by a veterinarian. Your vet will need to do an exam and may recommend taking x-rays to check for fractures or other injuries to the legs so he can be appropriately treated.

I would highly recommend taking Jasper to a veterinarian. The swelling at the ear looks like a hematoma according to the picture. It also appears that Jasper may have some eye discharge and potentially an ear infection. I don't like the fact that Jasper is lethargic and laying around. Your veterinarian can make sure there is or is not an ear infection, see if he needs antibiotics and discuss options regarding the hematoma on his ear. With the ear you can either drain it, leave it and let it scare down or have surgery performed to fix it. They would also have to treat the possible ear infection. Hello, sorry to hear about Odin. It looks like he has a severe infection, however I cannot tell you based on those results where. With he signs you are seeing, I would worry that he could have a kidney infection or a GI ulcer or even a GI perforation. Particularly the tarry stools make me concern that he could have an upper GI bleed from an ulcer or perforation. I would actually recommend having him evaluated now or as soon as possible by an emergency or your primary veterinarian. It sounds like he may actually require to be hospitalized and be treated aggressively with medical management. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Mister. I would assume from what you are describing that one of two things has happened. Mister either got into a fight with another cat/some wildlife or he has suffered some other trauma such as hit by car/other. I would advise taking Mister to your veterinarian. They can get a detailed history and do a thorough examination of the affected areas. Typically with fights, the hind end is involved since one cat is often running away from the other cat or animal that is attacking it. Of course bite wounds and scratches can occur anywhere on the body. Your vet can then discuss a sound treatment plan which could involve sedation/anesthesia, clip/clean wounds, drain placement, antibiotics, rabies booster, pain medicines, anti inflammatory medicines, etc. If you are not sure what happened, your vet will most likely advise a rabies booster shot (if no fever) in case this was a wild animal such as a raccoon, skunk, etc. Good luck with Mister.

She could have pulled a muscle or have an infection somewhere. Once the source of her discomfort is located, a vet can get her medications to help her feel better, including pain medications. A clot that causes limping is VERY painful. We do not expect cats that have thrown clots to recover without significant treatment. So, that certainly makes it less likely that Luna had a clot. However, I would strongly recommend having her examined to see what is going on. It certainly is not normal for a 6 year old cat to be limping. If Luna does not do well at the vet, maybe a house call vet would be a good option for her. Black stool is concerning as that may indicate a bleed in the upper GI tract such as the stomach. If he is also vomiting and has had this ongoing for several days it would be best to seek out veterinary care in person ASAP.
