Why does my cat lick the dry bathtub? Is it normal or a concern?

This does seem like a strange behavior but I wouldn’t be too overly concerned about it. Your cat may have smelled something on the sheet and she was just interested in it. As long as she isnotherwose acting normally, eating and drinking well, and usingnher litter box then I would not be to concerned.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Generally, licking something like a blanket is not necessarily a bad thing. However, my concern is more making sure that she is not swallowing the fur especially if it clumps as that could result in an obstruction. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It should be fine if he licks it but ingesting too much could be harmful (obstruction). I’d consider having Micole examine by your Vet and some blood work done. Pica can be a sign of an underlying condition, deficiency or inflammatory bowel disease. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! She may like the taste (saltiness) of your skin or she is grooming you like she would another cat. Excessive licking, more so in dogs, can be a sign of nausea. If she is eating, not vomiting and having normal stools I wouldn't read too much in to it. I would limit the behavior though. Cat bites can spread bacteria, but if there are not wounds or breaks in your skin you should be fine. Just wash your hands after. Have a good day

I recommend checking his mouth for any bad breath, tartar or gingivitis or a broken tooth. This can also happen when a patient is nauseous. Has he recently vomited, been drooling or experienced a lack of appetite? If not, his behavior likely not concerning. Many cats will do this as an extension of grooming. It can be a compulsive habit or just a random behavior the cat will display from time to time. Assess him for the problems that I have mentioned. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Some cats do prefer to drink from running water so a pet fountain may be a good idea. But if she is drinking more than usual a visit to the vet is needed for possible bloodwork to rule out things like kidney disease.
