My cat licked Vicks VapoRub. Is it dangerous or toxic for them?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I'm not terribly worried about the effects of the Vicks. However, I imagine the smell would be overwhelming for a creature with a much more powerful nose than we have. That being said, watch Minkay closely and if you see vomiting, diarrhea, heavy breathing, coughing, etc. please see you vet. Side note, Vicks probably will not work for sneezing and if Minkay is sneezing that badly, he needs to see a vet for testing if needed and/or for medication that will be more effective. Thank you for using pet coach. I would not be concerned about using a small amount in a small humidifier being toxic to Junior. However I would not recommend applying it to his skin or even applying it to your skin if he is going to be licking that area. I would limit the use of the humidifier to be on the safe side. Hi, and thanks for your question. I've looked up some information for you about Icy Hot. It contains menthol, which should be harmless, but it also contains salicylates, which are essentially the same as aspirin. This is potentially harmful to a cat, especially their GI tract and kidneys. Unfortunately I don't have any information about dosage - how much is definitely dangerous. I would contact an emergency clinic in your area, who can contact the Animal Poison Control line run by the ASPCA - they will hopefully have some information about previous Icy Hot ingestions in cats and they should be able to guide you.

Hello. Cats are very curious, but very careful when tasting new things. It is very unlikely that she got more that a small lick begore deciding this was pretty nasty stuff. Essential oils can be toxic to cats, the problem occurs when people mistakenly apply them to a pet, & then a cat is almost forced to lick her coat. You may see some stomach upset (vomiting or diarrhea). Tiger Balm is moderately toxic if ingested in large amounts. Typically, a short fast followed by a bland diet can resolve minor upset. See your veterinarian if any upset or limping persists.

It is possible that the tea tree oil has a significant odor that your cat may be able to smell easily and may like which leads him to lick your hair. I would discourage Sylvester from doing this as tea tree oil is toxic to cats even in small quantities. If Sylvester develops any symptoms such as vomiting, weakness, unstable walking, or tremoring please have him evaluated by a veterinarian promptly. Hope this helps!

I am sorry to hear about your concern for your kitty Ruth! It does not appear that Old Bay Seasoning has any ingredients that cause toxicity in cats and if she ingested just a few licks, it is not likely to cause her any issues, but I would monitor for vomiting/diarrhea/decreased appetite and contact your vet if these occur.
