Cat licked turmeric on wound, foamed at mouth. What should I do?

It look like an external wound to the outer ear flap. It is hard for me to see the wound because of the paste. From what I can tell it looks clean and not too inflamed. Oh my. This sounds serious indeed. I would highly recommend not waiting for your regular vet to open to take Chile in, and instead take her in to see your nearest ER vet right away.http://www.vetlocator.com/hotline.php Foaming at the mouth can mean that Chile is suffering from an acute allergic reaction or is in severe pain from the bite wounds. Disease tranmission usually takes longer than that to occur, so it is unlikely. However, Chile needs to be examined, tested, and treated by a medical professional as soon as possible. There isn't much you can do for her t home without knowing what is going on internally first and then pursuing medical treatment based on her injuries. Just try to keep her in a small enclosed area like the bathroom so that you can keep a close eye on her and she doesn't have many places to hide in, and allower her free access to water. Best case scenario is that she is just really painful. I would also recommend rinsing off the Turmeric, in case her system is just not agreeing with that. Wound should be cleansed with Betadine diluted 50:50 with water or Chlorhexidine solutino 3% diulted to a light blue mixture and then allowed to breathe. She likely will need antibiotics and pain medication from your vet. Don't be tempted to give any over the counter pain medication to her, becuase no human pain meds are safe for cats. Poor Pye! Thank you for following up to state that he got some miconazole in his nose and mouth. This medication is only prescribed for topical use, and seems to only have minimal absorption if some is accidentally ingested. However, it can cause some stomach upset or even liver problems if enough is ingested. It's likely that Pye is foaming at the mouth because it tastes pretty terrible. I'm glad to hear that you've rinsed out his mouth! However, since I don't know how much he ingested, I'd recommend calling either the Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661) or the ASPCA Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) to discuss this problem with one of their veterinary toxicologists. Odds are good that this shouldn't cause any problems for Pye, but it's best to confirm with them the risk of causing liver problems based on how much of the miconazole that got into his mouth. Please trim the fur so you can keep an eye on the wound and so the fur doesn't get stuck in it. Clean the area with hydrogen peroxide. I can't tell from the photo but if there is dirt in it you can flush the area with warm water. I wouldn't put anything topical on it if Truffles is licking the area. Using a restraint collar will stop the licking and then you could apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it, not deep into the wound. Keeping the area open and draining for a few days will prevent an abscess, a puss pocket under the skin. If Truffles stops eating or the area is very red and painful then he will need a veterinary exam and antibiotics. These wounds are not usually sutured as that traps in the infection. It appears that the wound is healing properly. I think it unlikely that she will die from this superficial wound. Continue to clean it daily with warm water, and prevent licking since this will delay healing. You can use a topical ointment like Neosporin. If the area around the wound suddenly gets red, swollen, or it oozes a creamy discharge, then Tiger may need evaluation by a vet and a round of oral antibiotics.

It really depends on how severe the damage is. If it is simply a case of some swelling the treatment may simply be to let her rest. However if she seems painful or is acting strangely then she would need to go to the vet as and possibly get an anti-inflammatory mefucation. They may need to do investigations also. Don't give her any at home painkillers as many are toxic to cats.

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). It may heal on its own, even though it will take few days. Disinfection may be done at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths twice daily. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. If the wound will not heal/or at least improve in 5 days, a check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem.
