My cat is lethargic, vomiting, and collapsing. Is it an emergency?

If this has been going on for more than a few days it might be better to see an emergency veterinarian today, however if the symptoms are more recent you may be able to wait. If Greta's gums seem pale or she is having trouble breathing, or if she has a history of other medical problems it would also be better to have her seen today. Otherwise I think you can probably wait until tomorrow. Ultimately these symptoms are somewhat vague and can be a sign of a number of problems so you should go with your gut.

It's really difficult to know for sure without being able to examine her. Given that she hasn't eaten for two days and is lethargic and vomiting, I have to recommend that she be seen by a vet as soon as possible. This could indicate a severe disease, or toxin ingestion. In both cases, her condition can diminish rapidly if not treated soon enough. Vomiting and diarrhea can occur secondary to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, parasites, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have Gracie evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. At the very least they can start her on medications to make her feel better and check her hydration status. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. Lameness can be a sign of a few things that range from a muscle sprain to even a fracture. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. Treatment will be dependent on findings though at the very least pain control medications can be prescribed. Good luck and have a good day!

Hi and thanks for your post on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If you could get her attention and she seemed conscious during the episode, it was not a seizure. Extreme lethargy can cause her not to move very much and appear immobile. The vomiting could be causing low electrolytes and glucose which can definately cause lethargy in very young and small animals. It can also dehydrate them very quickly which can also cause lethargy. If she is vomiting, lethargic, and not eating, I would take her into see her emergency veterinarian right away. It is hard to say what Aries has without examining her first but at her age it could be a bacterial or viral infection causing the symptoms. I hope you are able to take her in soon. Vomiting and inappetence are concerning symptoms as they could occur with things like a gastrointestinal obstruction, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, among many other possibilities. This is an emergency. Your cant needs to be seen by a veterinarian right away. She needs a thorough exam and blood work. The signs are too unspecific to pinpoint the problem without an exam. This could be a central nervous condition or weakness due to an electrolyte imbalance or a viral disease. Please take her to a vet right away.
