No, I recommend to have Harlem examined immediately. This could be an emergency situation. When pets suddenly develop a change in their breathing pattern, they need to be examined immediately. This is especially true for cats who can hide signs of heart disease and not have any murmurs or other clues on physical examine. Other causes include infection, asthma or fluid in the lungs. With any cat showing potential signs of respiratory distress this is an immediate emergency. I strongly recommend going to the ER clinic now. I cardiac disease in cats often goes undetected until the point that they have difficulty breathing. Your cat sounds critically ill and should be seen by a vet ASAP. Open-mouth breathing is always an emergency in cats - it is a sign of respiratory distress. It is difficult to say what the cause is without doing some testing, but possibilities include cancer, pneumonia, asthma, or heart failure.

I understand that, but Mimu is having trouble breathing so it's a medical emergency. This will be very distressing to him, and it may be he is having heart problems such as heart failure. Heart failure will cause fluid to build up back in his lungs, causing labored breathing. If he does have this and it's left untreated, he will literally drown in fluid in his lungs. You do not want to do that to him, so you need to bring him into a vet immediately. If he does have heart failure, there are medications that can be prescribed to make him more comfortable and diminish his symptoms. Please take him into a vet now. Best of luck.

This is an emergency. I'm sorry that there is not a near by vet but your cat needs to be seen by a veterinarian immediately. I worry if you wait, things may just get worse. Please call the nearest ER and ask them for advice on the best way to get your cat to them.

What a gorgeous cat! I am sorry he is not feeling well. Licking his lips is a sign of nausea. Even though he may not be vomiting today he is showing signs that he is still not feeling well. If he is eating (even small amounts) and drinking water as well as interacting with you, urinating, and defecating than he may be able to wait until Wednesday. However, if Michaleto's breathing continues to be abnormal at all to you this may be a sign that he is in pain or has some sort of disease of his heart or lungs. Any abnormal breathing - whether fast or hard - should be seen as soon as possible by a veterinarian. I hope he is feeling better soon.

These signs may be compatible with a chest infection or alternatively to a cardiac problem. The two differentials must be ruled out asap as this could be a medical emergency. Pleural space or thoracic cavity could have fluid building up.
