My cat's leg tumor is bleeding. Does he need an emergency vet visit?

It could simply be a benign growth, as it looks like it could be one in your picture, but unfortunately I cannot make the determination for sure without seeing him in person and doing tests on it. It is a bit concerning that it has grown up to 4x in size and is bleeding. It could be bleeding because he is scratching at it, but again I don't know unless I see him in person. Due to the fact it has grown in size and is bleeding for some reason, then yes I do think this is concerning enough to see the vet. It would be good to get the exact diagnosis of the bump; in addition, your cat is 10, which means he's a senior cat, and there is always a risk that any bump in a senior cat could be malignant. Poor guy. Some tumors can for so big that they stretch the skin so much that it opens the skin up. This likely requires surgical removal of the entire mass. I would continue the antibiotic as long as it is safe for use in pets. I would also recommend cleaning it with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water on the first day, then sterile saline flushes thereafter until you can get him in to the vet. To say what it is, we would need to take a sample of cells for examination under a microscope. Before it gets bigger, it should be removed. The bigger it gets, the harder it will be to remove since there is not a lot of excess skin that can be stretched to cover the hole created when it is removed. I would recommend calling your local PetCo clinic to see if this service is offered, since it varies widely from location to location.

I'm sorry to hear your cat is having problems. The bleeding bump on his leg, if he is allowed outside it could be a bite wound from another cat. If it has become infected, that will make him not feel well and have a decreased appetite. He could also have mass that has opened up on the skin. As far as his bottom, he may have an anal glad problem. These are small glands that sit under the skin on either side of the anus. They can become infected or blocked and even rupture open and bleed. If this doesn't appear to be the case, something coming out of his anus could be a parasite or a foreign object (piece of something he shouldn't have eaten such as a toy or clothing). Either of these scenarios can cause vomiting. You mentioned he hasn't gone to the bathroom. If he is unable to urinate (straining in the box, but no urine comes out), this is an emergency and he needs to go the veterinarian. If he hasn't defeated, it is likely due to his decreased appetite. It seems like he has more than one problem that should be evaluated by his veterinarian to get you some definitive answers. Good luck and I hope he feels better soon!

Hi, in the first picture it looks like there could be a bit of infection as the fluid seems cloudy. Looking at the second one the skin lesion looks more like podo dermatitis, an inflammation of Jeff's pad. I think it is worthy to have hm checked over, in order to get some medications and help him towards a speedy recovery. If you don't take him to see your vet, his foot will continue to get worse and every time he puts his foot down to walk he will be in a lot of pain. I think your vet will not need to run tests but just give him some medications and therefore cost should be limited. Without further testing, there is no way to tell if this growth is due to infection, trauma or allergy, or if it is a mass. Masses can be of a malignant (cancerous) type that can spread elsewhere and/ or invade the healthy tissue around them, or a more benign (noncancerous) type that is unlikely to spread. I recommend making an appointment for Onxy to see your vet to have the growth tested. In many cases this can be done using a fine needle aspirate, where cells are removed from the growth using a needle and examined under a microscope to determine what it is and to guide treatment. In some cases further testing may be needed to determine the necessary course of treatment, but it is important to get new growths tested in a timely manner, to allow for treatment if necessary.
