Cat has healing leg scab from fights. When to see vet? How to mediate?

I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and treat accordingly. She probably has a wound from the cat fight. I recommend checking her carefully and clean any scab you find with hydrogen peroxide. It’s best to keep the wound open so the infection can drain. If she stops eating or is too painful then please take her in for a veterinary exam and treatment. It looks like it may be a wound that has developed a scab. This may habe been from a cat fight wound. I would be concerned with how deep this wound goes and a secondary infection. You can make up a light brown solution of Betadine and sterile saline to clean the area and monitor it. If it worsens, I would strongly urge you try to get in to see a vet for proper treatment.

Please keep this area clean so the skin will heal. I use hydrogen peroxide as it doesn't sting. You can then apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. Luckily cats heal very well so as long as he is moving normally, is not in pain and the area doesn't get infected you do not need to him take him in. If he stops eating or the wound becomes infected or smells or he stops using the leg then take him in for an exam. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Cats are miraculous healers. The leg could just be sore. I would worry about an abscess forming from the bite. Abscesses required opening them up and antibiotics. The only thing you can do is clean the wounds twice daily with warm water and a mild soap and warm compress the wounds after each cleaning for the next 3-5 days. I wish you the best!

Certainly a buster collar would avoid further scratching and an antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) will avoid any risk of infection. Even though a picture of the wound would help to determine the most appropriate underlying treatment more specifically, I think in this case a vet check up would be ideal. Poor cat. This looks wide enough where it should at the very least get a topical treatment. You can try an over the counter antibitoic ointment or spray from your local pet store. Ask a store representative as to what is available in your area. You should also clean this area with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water to help keep bacteria and infection at bay.
