My cat's kittens died or were deformed. Is this normal after birth?

There is a possibility that she only had one kitten and this was it. Cats will eat seriously deformed or dead kittens in order to not leave traces for prey animals. This happens inside a house, too, as it is an instinct. It is a good idea to have a veterinarian give her an exam to make sure thatg there is no kitten left behind or a uterine infection. Poor Mama cat! Hopefully she is doing ok. I'd recommend getting a vet visit for her in the near future to spay her, and consider doing an infectious disease bloodwork panel. I worry that having congenital abnormalities with the kittens might mean that she has an infectious disease. Also, if she is not current on vaccinations get those done so she is protected in the future from infectious disease.

I am so sorry you came home to two dead kittens! Newborn kittens are very fragile, and it could the one who was cold simply wasn't strong enough to make it. As for the one with the intestines out, it could be a birth defect causing the intestines to be outside the body. Without seeing them in person, I can't say for certain. I can say keep the father away from the kittens until they are older. Mother cats can be very protective of their kittens, and the father should not be around until the kittens are weaned. You can see some bleeding after giving birth, that is normal, but without seeing her in person, I can't say if it's normal or not for sure I'd be concerned she may have more kittens yet to be born. Have her seen by a vet immediately. As for the milk, yes it's normal to still have milk there.

There could be a few causes including a viral infection, parasites, poor milk quality, premature birth or a congenital issue within Peaches that made it so the kittens did not form properly. Peaches will be ok. Be sure to give her plenty of attention and stick to a routine. Her milk will dry up within a week or so. Do monitor her teats for any signs of infection like redness or pain. I recommend to have Peaches spayed within 8 weeks from the birth. Having a cat spayed has many health and behavioral benefits. Additionally, 1 female cat can have almost 30 kittens in a year if not kept indoors and away from male cats. That's a lot of kittens/cats to care for. Not to mention hundreds of thousands of cats and kittens are destroyed every year because there are not enough homes. I hope this helps and my condolences.
