My cat with kidney failure refuses to eat. What can I do to help her?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Bombay | Female | spayed | 3 years and 7 months old | 5.07 lbs

Mimis been diagnosed with FIV. Recently she stopped eating on & off,she had an intestinal infection that relapsed once but her stool is getting back to normal. Her test results now show she has kidney failure. Vet's are giving her sub cut for 6 days to see if this is reversible. I need her to eat. She refuses everything. She hasn't had anything solid in 3 days, only force fed chicken broth. What should I do? I'm also attaching her latest blood test results. Please help.

Are IV fluids able to be performed? If they are I would recommend doing that over subcutaneous fluids. I would also talk to your veterinarian about starting an antacid with Mimi. When cats are in kidney failure they have a build up of acid in their stomach which make them not want to eat. Otherwise when cats are in kidney failure an aggressive treatment for at least 3 days and it is not helping, they typically at that point don't see any reversal in the kidney failure.
