My cat has sores on the small of get back that look infected. She is an indoor cat. She started scratching a couple of weeks ago and now this.

That may be due to an allergy, although fleas mites or skin infection could be the cause. I would recommend to treat with a good quality flea treatment first of all, then to discuss with your veterinarian further skin tests to rule out or reveal infection or mites infestation.
Antibiotics and possibly steroids can be given to solve skin lesions.
