My cat is very itchy from allergies. What products are safe to use?

In general this is not advisable since human products are not made to be ingested. Cat grooming themselves very frequently and thus are likely to get the product in their mouth. Most treatments for cats will be systemic. Otherwise the veterinarian will carry pet safe ointments and sprays. Most of these cats will also wear an Elizabethan collar to prevent licking. I would encourage getting her on a flea preventative even if you aren't seeing fleas because they can be very difficult to spot and some cats are very sensitive to flea bites and can have just one bite can make them quite itchy. In terms of over the counter products you can try, I would consider starting an omega fatty acid supplement such as Welactin, which can decrease inflammation and itching, and consider using a topical product such as Duoxo Calm mousse or spray on the area if bathing is difficult. You can try adding an omega-3 fatty acid supplement for pets to the diet. This can help improve skin health and act as a natural anti-inflammatory. There are no medicine safe for cats over the counter. If the steroid injection helped, then there is a good change it is from an allergy. You will have to talk to your vet about a long term solution such as a diet change or allergy testing to control the signs since long term steroid use can have unwanted side effects such as weight gain and diabetes.

It sounds like Zumba is having a form of allergy. There are different form of steroids that can be prescribe and that can help but definitively this medication is the best to resolve the itch (I would continue with that). I would discuss it with your veterinarian, as long acting injections and minimal oral dosages are available. There is also a nice topical spray available, it's called Cortavance and you can get it at the vets.
