My cat's injured eye has high pressure. Is removal necessary?

Hello. I am sorry to see that John is having issues with his eye. It does appear that the eye is severely compromised, and if the white clear discharge seen is the material from inside his eye then yes, it needs to be removed. You can always see an ophthalmologist for their opinion, however if that discharge is from a ruptured globe there is likely very little they will do aside from remove the eye. If the discharge can be 'wiped away' and a normal eye is underneath (unlikely based on what your vet has said and the picture provided) then it could be saved, however this is unlikely. Good luck with John, and remember, animals with 1 eye do exceptionally well, so don't worry about John only having 1 eye, he will do great!

This eye looks like it is ruptured. This is a constant source of pain and infection, and this cat will likely succumb to these things and not live a normal happy life. Infection could also lead to sepsis, so I highly recommend helping this stray kitty and getting this eye looked at. Yes, it does look like she suffered some trauma to that eye. From the photo, it looks like the eye probably cannot be saved. Kitty should see a veterinarian as soon as possible for an exam. I'm sorry Kouty had to have his eye enucleated! My own cat needed his eye enucleated recently, and I have to say that one eyed cats are very handsome! While you can see some bleeding after surgery, it shouldn't continue for days after surgery. Blood tinged discharge is normal, but active bleeding is not. I think you did the right thing by leaving him in the clinic for observation, but the bleeding should be stopped when you get him tomorrow. My own cat didn't have active bleeding after his surgery, he had some mild bloody discharge that stopped pretty quickly. If you see him still actively bleeding tomorrow, I would be concerned and have the vet check him out. My cat didn't have a patch on his eye, but he did have an Ecollar on to keep him from scratching at his eye while the area healed. I would recommend having one of those for him. Hello. Yes, this is absolutely painful to your cat. Poor Willow needs veterinary attention now as there is probably a tumor growing behind the eye. Other than removing the eye ( enucleation ), there may not be very much more that can be done for her, but at the very least, I would have her on pain medications. This eye is now blind and is likely to be painful - removal of the eye would be the kindest procedure in this case although anaesthetic is more risky at such a young age. I recommend seeking referral if your local vet is not comfortable with the anaesthetic or procedure in such a young kitten as this eye will be painful until it is removed and is at risk of rupture and serious infection
