My cat's wound looks infected. Does it need antibiotics or just spray?

Antibiotic ointment may not by enough to treat it and Collic possibly will need a course of antibiotic in form of tablets to get back to normal. I would recommend Collic to be checked over by your local vets to fully assess the wound and to recommend the best treatment option.

Hi and thanks for posting. From the pictures, the area looks red and infected. I would advise Khora be taken to a veterinarian so they can clean the wound thoroughly and give Khora a course of antibiotics. In the mean time, you can keep the area clean with a mild cleansing cloth or 3% hydrogen peroxide a few times daily, but I would highly recommend seeing a veterinarian. This lesion is very severe and requires antibiotics and proper wound care. The area surrounding the area affected must be clipped and disinfected appropriately and antibiotics (topical or systemic) are required.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Stormy! I would shave the fur away from the wound then clean it well with water and a mild soap (avoid hydrogen peroxide). Then apply triple antibiotic ointment twice daily. The most important thing is to have Stormy wear and E-collar to prevent licking and keep him indoors. He should see a Vet as soon as possible to at a minimum get antibiotics but to also see if surgery is required to close the wound. I would call your local SPCA to see if they offer a low cost Veterinary clinic. I hope this helps and I wish Stormy a speedy recovery!

Based on your picture, it does look like he might have a skin infection of some kind, even possibly from a ruptured abscess. Does he go outside? I would recommend having him evaluated by his regular veterinarian to have area clipped, cleaned, and assessed to determine what may be going on, and what treatment (antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, or possible surgical repair) may be needed to resolve it. If he goes outside and the wound may have come from an unknown animal, I would also recommend his rabies vaccine be boostered as well. Good luck!

Yes, I do think that Bramble should see a veterinarian as he will likely require local therapy if it is an abscess with drainage and cleaning as well as oral antibiotics. At the same time, your veterinarian can check his eyes to see if they are also affected and treat accordingly. Good luck!

If it is getting worse with conservative treatment, then it is time to have Pluto physically examined by your veterinarian. The wound may need to be debrided (have dead tissue removed) so that healing can occur. It may need sutures and a drain depen7on severity. Systemic antibiotics may also be needed. Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent licking until he sees the doctor. Given current events, you may need to drop him off at the clinic then wait for your veterinarian to call you to discuss exam findings and treatment options.
