Can I use human medicine for my cat's infection or ringworm?

Antifungal medication (most likely a topical ointment based on itraconazole or similar) is required. Unfortunately no, there are no OTC medications you can use to treat Magick's ringworm. She needs an oral anti fungal medication because Microsporum canis (fungal organism causing ringworm) is spread diffusely throughout a cat's entire hair coat, and the whole body needs to be treated. The oral anti fungal medications are prescription only, so you have to make an appointment with the vet. If catfish has only received injectable antibiotics I would also treat using topical medications or shampoos. I recommend using a shampoo such as Douxo PS chlorhexidine combination shampoo and bathe twice weekly until the infection is resolved. Also recommend using a spray such as malacetic conditioning spray and apply to the area until resolved. Does not help then you may need to try a different antibiotic. I hope this helps! Cats are typically treated with oral anti-fungal medications for ringworm infections. We don't typically hospitalize cats and treat with IV medications when they have ringworm. The oral medications are very effective. Talk to your vet about the best protocol for your cats.

No the medication itself does not cause pruritis (itching). The ringworm infection however does cause itching, especially as it is healing. Nystatin can be used but since it is a prescription medication for, you should check with your veterinarian before giving or applying any medications to or on your pet. An e-collar (cone) should be in place to prevent licking/ingestion which could cause GI upset.
