My cat was hit by a car. She's hiding and limping. Vet needed?

Please have Loka seen by a vet immediately. She is likely in a lot of pain, and may have serious internal injuries as well if she was hit by a car. There are indeed treatments your vet can provide to help keep her comfortable. Pain medications meant for humans can be very dangerous (and even deadly) for cats, so I do not recommend giving any to Loka without consulting with your vet. This could be as severe as a fracture or something more mild like a soft tissue injury. The fact that he is crying when the leg is manipulated indicates that he is quite painful requiring pain control medications at least. If he does have a fracture, he may actually require surgery. For this reason it is crucial that he is indeed evaluated by a veterinarian. You could consider taking him to your local humane society as often times they offer less expensive veterinary care. Poor Sphinx! She sounds like she is in pain! I'd definitely recommend taking her to see a veterinarian right away. She may have a broken leg or internal injury and needs immediate veterinary medical care. She will need pain medication as well. Based on the information you have provided, and the attached pictures, I am also very concerned that Sprinkles may have sustained significant trauma, causing her to be non-weightbearing lame on her left hind leg. Whether she was hit by a car or potentially fell and injured her leg, it sounds like she is in a significant amount of pain. She also looks like she has abraded skin (a wound) on that leg as well, which is at risk of becoming infected. I recommend having her seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible to have her injuries addressed. He/she will perform a full physical exam to localize her pain and determine if she has other, more life-threatening injuries such as damage to her chest or abdomen. X-rays may be indicated if a fracture is suspected. Ultimately, pain medication and antibiotics can be prescribed to help ease her pain and prevent infection. Importantly, NEVER give pain medication that is intended for humans to your pet, as these can be fatally toxic. I hope this is helpful!

I am so sorry to hear this! To answer your question- it depends on the severity of the injuries and the overall health of the cat. But the quality of life of the cat in question is the real concern. This sounds like a significant injury that no doubt is causing pain and distress. You did not state whether or not this is your cat, or a cat that is able to be caught, but I would highly recommend taking the cat to a veterinarian as soon as possible to relieve any suffering and hopefully treat the cat's injuries. You should take her to an out of hours vet or Pet ER today. Your vet;s office should have emergency information on their answering machine. In the UK all veterinarians have to provide an out of hours service, be it themselves or via referral to another veterinary clinic. This is obviously a painful condition which should be addressed today.

Poor girl. It sounds like she may have a serious injury there and could have dislocated her hip joint or tore her ligament. You really should take her to your vet now to get some x-rays done of her leg. Most cats with mild injuries won't show you that they are hurt, so if a cat is limping its usually pretty serious and should be looked at quickly.
