Why does my cat hide when showing me affection around family?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | spayed | 2 years and 5 months old | 8.82 lbs

I have 3 female cats, sisters and they are all about 2 years old. I adopted them when they were 10 days old and they lost their mother, They get along with each other and we don't have any serious behavioral problems except a weird behavior from Fouska, the independent yet really patient one. She doesn't like to be seen by other family when she shows me affection. When they see her while she grooms me, she looks at them almost annoyed and leaves. What kind of cat instinct is that?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
It sounds like the cats natural survival instinct perhaps. Cats don't like to seem vulnerable or weak in front of assumed prey. Fouska has apparently imprinted on you and sees other family members as prey or potential prey. I hope this helps.
