My cat's head bald spot has a new white mark. Should I be worried?

It looks like a normal variety in the pigment of Dusty's skin. I would not be worried about it, but if you feel it really wasn't there a week ago, you may discuss biopsy with your veterinarian. Rarely, a small amount of depigmented skin can be diagnosed as cancer.

Thank you for the pictures, they are very helpful. I see what you mean about the bald spot and black spots. The black spots could be due to flea dirt, and scratching the area could cause the bald spot. Fleas don't live on the cat, they actually live in the environment. They just jump on the cat to feed and then jump off, so he could have fleas even if you don't see any. Make sure he is up to date on his flea treatments if he's not. Should he be up to date on his flea treatments, then this could be due to an injury (the black spots could be dirt), or an infection of the skin. In this case, you have two options. You could take him into the vet to get it examined and diagnosed, or you could watch it. Should you chose to watch it, take him into the vet if it gets bigger, appears infected, or starts to bother him. I don't think any immediate treatment is needed should you chose to watch the area. We can sometimes see color changes in haircoat in animals as they age, or as a result of inflammation or trauma to the skin. If there are no lesions (redness, crusts or scabs, raised bumps, etc.) and your kitty is not bothering at the area by licking/scratching at it, I would just continue to observe the site. I would check it weekly for changes. If he begins to lose hair, starts licking/scratching, the skin looks red or irritated or other spots appear, then a vet exam is recommended.

It looks like she make have gotten a small wound on her head, maybe from getting swatted by another cat. Cat claws and bites tend to make wounds with small holes that seal over and trap bacteria inside. This will form a small abscess which will then rupture, which is what this appears to be to me. Keep an eye on it and keep it clean with a washcloth, warm water and a mild soap. Clean it two or three times a day and make sure to get all the soap off or it will irritate her skin. As long as it continues to improve and she is acting fine, eating and drinking, she should be fine. If it closes up again, swells, gets really red, hot, or if she starts acting sick or loses her appetite, get her in to see you vet as soon as possible as she may then need antibiotics to clear up the infection and heal.

It looks as if this may be a scar or a localized area of hair loss. I agree that it does not look infected. As long as it does not change or bother your cat I would not be worried about it. I don't think I would be overly concerned about this at this time. I suggest you monitor that area for now. You can apply a topical antibiotic ointment/cream if you'd like twice a day. If it doesn't get better after 10 days or so you should have your vet check her out.

It is nice of you to check up on your fiance's cat. This bump doesn't seem alarming to me. It is small, the same color as the rest of the skin, and doesn't seem to bother Shadow. I would recommend keeping an eye on this small bump for the next week or two to see if it goes down gradually on its own. If it doesn't or seems to grow or bother Shadow, then you should consider getting it tested through your vet to make sure it isn't something to be concerned about. The only thing you can do is place an e-collar on him if he does start to scratch at it. Otherwise it's best to just leave it be. I wish you all the best with Shadow.
