My rescue cat has gray, wart-like spots on his skin. What are they?

If this gray area is in the area where the cat had a wound then it is probably just a scar and can be considered completely normal. If this is not in the same area of her wounds, there is some other cause of hair loss and she will need to be checked out by your vet. I'm glad you found this kitty and have taken such good care of him!

It’s difficult to say without doing an exam but these could be normal hair pigment changes. This sometimes will happens as a cat ages. I would also be concerned that something may be going on with the skin. I would make sure that it is just the hair that is discolored and the skin in that area look normal. I would be looking for an scabs, discoloration or redness of the skin and whether she is licking or bothered by those areas. If you are not sure, I would have your vet take a peak to ensure it looks normal. Your vet will be able to start her on the proper meds if needed. I hope this helps!

I hate to hear that Kitty is having the skin issues. I would recommend to leave the lesions alone and stop medicating for now. See if the systemic medications given by your vet heal the lesions. If these lesions persist, the vet may look for underlying allergies, thyroid issues or ringworm (which can have variable appearances). If Kitty is scratching at the lesions, then I would recommend that he wear an elizabethan collar to protect the area. It looks like he may have a dermatitis on his nose which could be secondary to a bacterial infection, trauma, allergic reaction, or possibly a fungal infection. He should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can do a culture, if needed to help diagnose.

That could be a few things on Meow. Sometimes cats will get a little skin infection, if he goes outside that could be a healing fight wound or it could be something like a skin mass. The best and safest way to know for sure what it is, would be to have it checked out by his veterinarian. The doctor will palpate the area and should get a good idea of the cause. Spots could be related to a wide variety of issues- bacterial infection, fungal infection, flea allergy, food allergy, or could be related to a underlying endocrine disorder such as hyperthyroidism or an autoimmune disease. Because there are so many different potential causes here, I would recommend Pixie see his veterinarian very soon to help determine a diagnosis. Your veterinarian may test for a fungal infection, bacterial infection and look for evidence of fleas. In addition, your veterinarian may run blood work to check for any underlying organ issues or endocrine disorders as a potential cause.
