What are the early signs of fungal infection in cats after a fight?

I'm sorry but those things can't be distinguished between from a photo. It could be from a fight or some other type of injury or it could be from parasites (like fleas). There is no way for me to tell. You are best off taking her to the vet (or have a mobile vet come to you). It is very hard to tell by the picture, but at this time it appears to be a superficial wound and not very deep. I do not appreciate any swelling around the lesion. At this time if Patxi is eating, drinking, non painful and does not have a fever I would continue to treat it topically. At anytime Patxi develops a fever ,swelling under the lesion or change in behavior I would think antibiotics are warranted.

From the picture I can only say this may be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria or fungal). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics or antifungal meds (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. More investigations like sampling and bacterial swabs would be needed to determine the underlying cause more specifically. In my experience I have seen large wounds like this one from Poxvirus infection (but usually other wounds are present as well). I would suggest to handle this wound always with gloves (you are doing it anyway as I can see from the pic). Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. It could possible be a wound from a cat fight, but other possible causes for a spot that looks like this include an eosinophilic granuloma, tumor, abscess, among a few other things. If it doesn't go back to normal in a couple days, or if Felix isn't eating like normal, he should get checked out by a vet. This is an abscess which is a deep pocket of infection that is filled with pus and blood. It is probably the result of a cat fight. Martin needs to see a veterinarian to have this treated.
