Yes, this is true! According to the Cornell Veterinary School: "While there is no cure for feline diabetes, this disease can usually be managed fairly well with appropriate education and support of owners. Cats with well-controlled diabetes can live many years of high quality life. Some cats may lose their need for insulin treatments (termed “remission”), but even in these cases it is recommended that owners continue to monitor for the recurrence of clinical signs of diabetes and keep the cat on a low carbohydrate diet." This would be determined by Luna's insulin levels.

Hello. The normal range of glucose for cats is 70-110, so you are on the low end of normal. This is OK & I would not be concerned about this as it is only one reading & as long as he is eating well & there is no excessive urination or water intake, Dimples is in excellent shape. That is something that is determined based on the current control of the diabetes and is adjusted accordingly. That should be recommended by the veterinarian who is prescribing the insulin and keeping tract of the case closely. There is no way to accurately measure glucose in the urine for these cases. How long it takes to achieve steady levels also varies widely per case but possibly within a week or so. Best of luck!

Unlike dogs it is very common for cats to have a mildly elevated blood sugar on screening lab work due to stress, called stress hyperglycemia. In some cats this can become higher then your kitties making it hard to differentiate from diabetes. But, cats with diabetes usually have other symptoms that normal cats do not have like increased thirst and urination, and their blood sugar is typically >250 or higher. Some pre diabetic cats will start out with a lower value so monitoring the blood sugar over time or additional testing can be used to differentiate stress from real high blood sugar if needed. Good question. The "normal" level of glucose in urine is none. In a non-diabetic, the urine glucose should read negative. This is rarely the case with our diabetic animals. They often have some glucose in their urine because their blood glucose levels are higher than normal and that high glucose "spills over" into their urine. So, we use the urine glucose level as an indicator of blood glucose levels and changes in blood glucose levels. I hope that was helfpul and answered your question. I'm sorry that Pepper isn't doing well! Yes, I do recommend having the fructosemine test done. Cats can have glucose in their urine due to stress, and this test will tell the vet if the glucose in her urine is due to stress or if she truly has diabetes. I hope this helps!

It should drop quite fast if Morpheus is on an adequate dose of insulin, 295 is still a little high but it is definitely a good progress already, if it stays at the same level he might need a slight adjustment of the insulin dosage.
