Hi and thanks for your post! Yes, it is recommended that even indoor cats be on flea preventative. The reason for this is fleas can find ways into your home and even hitch a ride on you! It only takes one flea to induce a flea allergy and cause an infestation eventually so it is better to prevent. Dealing with fleas on your pet and in your house can be a real headache. Flies don't carry the toxoplasmosis parasite per se, but they can spread contaminated soil or cat feces. Cats can get toxoplasmosis by eating infected rodents, birds, or other small animals, or anything contaminated with feces from another cat that is shedding the microscopic parasite in its feces. In that way, it could be possible that Noushi could get toxoplasmosis if the flies she ate were carrying toxoplasmosis oocytes, but it would be highly unlikely. Hello, sorry to hear about Maximus. It does indeed look like a bot fly wound. Bot flies are self limiting and when its time for them to develop, they will come out of the hole. The only way to treat them, is by physically removing them and in an a cat, they may need sedation. What you can do, is monitor for any swelling, pain, or discharge. If you keep finding maggots there is a relatively large infestation, You should shave the hair around the wound and wash it well with disinfectant removing all the maggots. If you cannot do that you will need to take your cat to your veterinarian for a clip, clean, disinfect, and exam. Maggots can kill your cat. Neither you nor your dog will get maggots unless you have the respective blue bottle or similar flies in your house and a wound into which the flies can lay their eggs
