My cat has flu. How long do symptoms last and when should I worry?

Cat flu is very common in young cats and is very contagious to other cats as well. It is treated with antibiotic eye drops/ointment and oral antibiotics for about 2 weeks. if left untreated many cats will end up blind or even die from the disease. I advise going to your vet asap to start the treatment right away.

Hi there. This sounds like a viral infection that both of your cats have. If that is true, they will both have "flare ups" from time to time where the symptoms are worse than other times. Antivirals and antibiotics are available through your veterinarian if you can take one of the cats in-it would help to fiv/feleuk test your kitty as well. Hope this helps!

Hi ! If Frankie is not vaccinated, he could be suffering with Cat flu. If this is the case, there are no real medications for it but just supportive care. Make sure they are eating and drinking and that are kept indoors. Normally they get better within a week time. If cat flu is quite bad, and Frankie is not eating, is very depressed or just not improving, it is best to go to see a vet sooner rather than later as he might benefit from supportive care such as IV fluids, pain relief, appetite stimulants. If Frankie is vaccinated then best to see a vet sooner as it could be that he needs antibiotics. I hope this makes sense and that Frankie gets better soon.

I hate to hear that Pussy is sick. I would be worried that the virus is allowing a secondary bacterial infection to set up. Your previous vet is correct that she may have problems from time to time. Not all of them will be serious but like you pointed out, she's never presented like this. I would recommend to get her into the vet ASAP to have her lungs checked out for signs of pneumonia (which is serious). Which is always the concern for deep chest sounds. It is most likely that he has a viral form of cat flu, this is really common especially in cats who have been in shelters. There is no treatment for the virus as such, if he seems particularly unwell it may have become bacterial so a trip to the vet and sone antibiotics may be required. The diarrohea could be infection or just inflammation from stress/ intolerance etc. If it is intermittent I would try a gadtroitestinal food and you could give a pribiotic. If it becomes regular you should go to the vet.
