How many FeLV vaccine rounds do cats need? Age, doses, boosters?

Hi there, if Gabriella is an adult cat, she world need the rabies and fvrcp combo given once, then boostered after 12mths. That second dose would likely be good for 3yrs. If she is a kitten, we recommend boosting the fvrcp every 2-4wks until she's 16wks old. The risk for felv increases if she's ever in contact with other cats eg. If neighbors cats come into your yard, or she goes to a boarding facility. If that is the case, she should get the felv (leukemia) vaccine. After the initial 2 doses, felv should be boosted annually. If Khali is 4 months old and this was her first round of vaccines, she will need boosters for the distemper and leukemia in 2-4 weeks. The rabies does not need a booster. The main vaccination(s) they need are: 1) FVRCP- a combo upper respiratory vaccine. 2) And if they go outdoors they should get the FeLV (leukemia) vaccination, which is an infection that is spread through drinking water. 3) Then of course the Rabies vaccine, if it is required in your state. The FVRCP and Rabies vaccine can be given once a year for the first year, then once every 3 years. The FeLV vaccine is given yearly.

One at 12 weeks and the final at 16 weeks of age. Aldo will need the feline leukemia vaccine if he is going to be an outdoor cat or interact with cats with questionable or unknown vaccine histories. I would probably do the booster in 3 weeks. That is pretty standard booster timing. I would ask your vet whether or not rabies and feline leukemia are recommended vaccines for your area. Those are the only other vaccines that I would consider if needed in your area.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach! If you are unable to get the booster vaccines, then immunity is probably not 100% established. However, I do think that giving at least one vaccine is beneficial and provides some protection. There is still the risk that without boostering, these cats will still be vulnerable to the disease and without receiving future boosters may contract the disease later on.
