Is 1/4 of 20mg famotidine safe for my cat, and when to give it?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Female | spayed | 14 years and 6 months old | 12 lbs

So I was told to give my hyperthyroidism and early stage kidney failure cat 1/4 tab of famotidine I gave my cat 1/4 of 20mg tab of famotidine I hope that’s ok and also gave it to her half hour after her methimazole medication I read online that I should have given her 1/4 tab of 10 mg famotidine not the 20 mg also heard I should have waited two hours after meds and food :( I’m leaving for a day and a half out of town and I’m stressing thinking I did something awful! Please help!!! Thank you!

The quarter tablet that you gave is absolutely fine. And the time at which you gave the famotidine is absolutely fine. What you did did not cause any harm so do not worry.     That does seem very high for her weight. A single dose at 10 mg is unlikely to cause any side effects. i would contact your vet tomorrow to verify the proper dose before re administering anything though

According to the veterinary medicine resource this drug has been tolerated at doses up to 90 mg/kg with mild symptoms (anorexia and excessive drinking) in some cats. Callie would have to have eaten 450 mg of Famciclovir to see these symptoms, so she is well below this amount if she ingested 2-125mg tablets totaling 250mg. She should be fine, however you can also consult with pet poison helpline to talk it over with a certified toxicologist as well. But based on my minimal research she is below the toxic level for ingestion. I hope your sweet girl continues to do well. Take care.

My cat missed a Felimazole dose. Is it okay to give the pill now?
Felimazole is a treatment for feline hyperthyroidism. Missing one dose of this medication usually doesn't significantly affect the blood levels of the drug, so I would expect no negative effects from the missed pill. If you suspect that he's getting to be good at spitting out the pills once you give them (i.e. you find more around the house), talk to your vet about a liquid formulation of this medication, that might be easier for you to give. It also can be formulated as a topical medication that is rubbed inside the ear.

Finn will be ok, you don't to take him into the vet. Studies have shown that it was well tolerated by cats at even 10 times the recommended dose, and adverse side effects were not seen. I hope this helps!

My cat takes Felimazole twice daily. Can I give it once a day?
Hello. Felamizole generally stays in the system for 12 hours, but it is not uncommon to increase the dose when an owner will be away temporarily. It is best to start the 5mg once a day several days before you leave to see if you notice any difference in Mia, but I have recommended this in the past. The other thing that I would suggest that works great is putting them in pill pockets which you can buy from your local pet store or online. They are very palatable so they tend to like them. You could also consider using tuna or any food he really likes. Good luck and have a great day!
