My cat's face cut looks like a picked scab and is bleeding. Vet needed?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 6 lbs

My cat has come in with a cut on her face that kind of looks like a scab that's been picked but is bleeding a bit. Should I take her to the vets?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

I think it would heal better and quicker if you did take her to the Vet. Clipping the fur in the area to evaluate it better and allow it to dry out would be best. Honey likely will need an antibiotic or a topical cream. If she is scratching she may need something to relieve the itch. Also check for fleas since she goes outside. It could be an allergy, in cats they can develop red plaques on their face, neck and belly with food and environmental allergies.

I hope this helps and I wish Honey a speedy recovery!
