My cat's eyes glow in photos. Is this normal? Should I see a vet?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and congratulations on your new pet! Glassy eyes may refer to cataracts, which are opacities in the lens of the eye. At a certain stage these can result in blindness. A photo of Puma's eyes would be great to help determine if this is the case. Cataracts can be treated, but it may not be necessary. Thanks for visiting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Her eyes look fine in this photo, but then again there aren't any close up views here. Cats often squint their eyes, especially if they are getting sleepy and about to nap. Now if you notice any redness of the white part of her eye, eye discharge (usually yellow green) or puffiness of her eyes, then I would get concerned about conjunctivitis and then eye drops would have to be prescribed by your vet. Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. From the pictures you posted it does not look that there is anything very serious going on with her left eye. Squinting the eye could be result of trauma (usually scratch from another cat) or infection. Please, keep wiping the eye and giving her soothing eye drops. If the eye is not back to normal after 5-6 days, you will have to try and get her seen by a vet.

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This doesn't sound normal to me and good thinking with the at home vision tests. There may be something abnormal going on with his vision that should be checked out with an eye exam at your veterinarian's office. There, your vet should be able to tell you what the issues with his eyesight may be. I hope this helps!

Sometimes cats can have some minor trauma that may result in pupil constriction and will go away on its own. If this continues though and it is still present in a few days, I would recommend that you have Harry evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Hello. When the third eyelids are prominent, then this could be an indication that a cat is unwell, but from your picture, Nojiko looks perfectly healthy, bright & alert. Just a corner of the third eyelids are visible, which can be perfectly normal in many cats. Any concerns, you should contact your veterinarian for a much more thorough examination. It looks like that left eye may have some ongoing damage ongoing problem with the cornea clear, (front part of the eye). Does she seem like she can see? Does she walk along walls (as though looking to be leaning in for a knowledge of where she is), does she bump into things? If she does not bump into things and DOES seem to be able to see, then her pupils are probably functioning appropriately even if you can't see it. However it is possible too that she has some lens changes... the lens in the left eye looks a bit cloudy in the picture. As long as she's an indoor cat, it shouldn't matter too much whether or not she can see. Most blind animals do quite well and function great as pets. However, if she seems uncomfortable or painful, I would encourage you to take her to your vet to have the eyes re-evaluated. Thanks for asking Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
