My cat isn't opening eyes, has tears, and is barely moving. Vet?

Squinting typically means the eye is painful as does the lethargy. From your pictures, the underside of the eyelid appears swollen and his third eyelid is elevated. He could have an eye infection. It can happen alone or be part of an upper respiratory tract infection. He may start with other symptoms such as sneezing and a decreased appetite. Another possibility is a corneal ulcer or scratch across the surface of the eye. This is very painful. The doctor will examine him and may recommend a test to look for an ulcer. The most common cause for an excessively teary eye is a viral upper respiratory tract infection and they can cause a fever. A fever can cause lethargy and not wanting to eat. Other possibilities are an injury to the eye that is painful. Since he isn't eating and lethargic he needs to be examined by a Vet. Cats shouldn't go longer than 2-3 days with out eating as they can get very sick from a secondary liver problem. I wish Allie a speedy recovery!

Poor Sweets! He could have injured his eye, or could he have a severe eye infection. This is something that needs to be treated promptly by a vet, as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would have your daughter take him into a vet now. Best of luck.

Loss of appetite and lethargy can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. Based on your description, Rome may be dealing with an infection (bacterial or viral). I would recommend having Rome examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Rome may need a course of an antibiotic to help treat this along with eye drops if there is evidence of infection in the eyes. If he is sleeping more than usual, he may be lethargic from the infection. I would make sure he is eating and drinking ok. If not, then I would have him seen sooner rather than later. Poor Satin. : ( Closing of the eyes along with mucous discharge are signs of an eye infection. Eye infections in cats can be caused by an underlying viral infection or from some sort of corneal trauma (ulcer, scratch). Satin needs prescription eye antibiotic ointment to clear this up. Your vet can do a quick eye stain to diagnose the underlying problem and get him the necessary medication he needs, so schedule an appt with your vet within the next 24 hrs to get this taken care of quickly before the eye worsens.
