How can I help my cat's eye wound heal better after vet treatment?

Hello. If you have or can purchase a skin antiseptic, one with either 2% chlorhexidine or 1% povidine iodine, then you can gently clean this 2 times daily. Antibiotics would hasten healing, & if the wound is not looking better by early next week, I would consider a veterinary visit. But by keeping this clean, it will heal, & yes, this has the look of a typical cat bite abscess, so he did get into an argument with another cat. I recommend clipping the area with an electric clipper gently, if you have one available and Toby allows. Keep the area clean, and you can apply silver sulfadiazene (SSD) ointment once a day to promote healing. You can also get Toby an E-collar or “cone” to prevent him from scratching/rubbing the area and causing further trauma. I hope this helps and that all is well with Toby!

Hello. First, stop squeezing the wound. Every time you do, you reopen & possibly re-contaminate the lesion. Pick up some Hibiclens ( chlorhexidine antibacterial skin cleanser ) at any pharmacy & gently scrub the area twice a day. It will take time, but eventually this should heal.. Please clean this with hydrogen peroxide then apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. Skin wounds on cats heal quickly as long as they stay open to the air so no infection builds up under the skin. Antibiotic ointment may not by enough to treat it and Collic possibly will need a course of antibiotic in form of tablets to get back to normal. I would recommend Collic to be checked over by your local vets to fully assess the wound and to recommend the best treatment option.

I would stop cleaning Moon Moon's sore with hydrogen peroxide. That's because it can actually damage tissues and interrupt the healing process. It is concerning that it's not healing, and the hydrogen peroxide could be part of the problem with it not healing. I would also refrain from putting Neosporin on it. Although quite safe on superficial wounds, cats groom and ingest most of the topical ointment you apply and therefore should be used only under direct veterinary supervision and if there are no other appropriate options. Many human ointments contain multiple other ingredients which are not necessarily safe to be swallowed. I think it would be a good idea to take her into the vet to have her wound examined. The vet can clean the cut, and may prescribe an antibiotic to help it heal if it's infected.

For cleansing the wound, you can use a diluted solution of Betadine and Saline mixed together until you have a light brown solution. Use this to clean the area and to help decontaminate the wound. If the wound begins to develop signs of infection such as pus, swelling, etc., I would recommend having Slinky examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate treatment recommendations can be made.
