My outdoor cat's eye is tearing with pus. What medicine can I use?

The most common cause of recurrent eye issues and sneezing is due to viral infections (herpesvirus and calicivirus) that can cause both eye and upper respiratory signs when they shed intermittently. Signs typically resolve once the virus is done shedding, but many cats can also develop secondary bacterial infections which require antibiotics for treatment. Hello. It is very common for an upper respiratory tract infection to also cause eye symptoms. This may include a clear watery discharge and inflammation of the eyelids and conjunctiva. It could be that your cat is suffering from chlamydia, which manifests in cats as weepy eyes. Don't work, it cannot be transmitted to you! Doxycycline treats weepy eyes in cats with chlamydia, and I would speak to your vet to see if that helps with his eye discharge.
