My cat has eye gunk, is lethargic, and not eating. What's wrong?

Loss of appetite and lethargy can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Gimli evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. Squinting typically means the eye is painful as does the lethargy. From your pictures, the underside of the eyelid appears swollen and his third eyelid is elevated. He could have an eye infection. It can happen alone or be part of an upper respiratory tract infection. He may start with other symptoms such as sneezing and a decreased appetite. Another possibility is a corneal ulcer or scratch across the surface of the eye. This is very painful. The doctor will examine him and may recommend a test to look for an ulcer. Based o these results, treatment will be started. I hope this information helps!

Jack's eyes and stool most likely are not related although can be. He may have an upper respiratory infection, conjunctivitis (inflammation in the conjunctiva of the eyes which may be infection vs allergic), Jack can have a corneal ulcer (less likely if it is both eyes that are affected) or even allergies (which are less likely due to age). With all of his symptoms, including a runny nose and sneezing it seems more like an upper respiratory infection. It is a good sign that he is still full of energy. With his stool, it can be stress or intestinal parasites. It can also be that he got into something he wasn't supposed to or even a virus. When you go to the veterinarian I would recommend bringing a stool sample so the veterinarian can make sure there are no intestinal parasites. They may dispense eye medication and medication to help with the diarrhea. Depending on the cause they find it just may be antibiotics for the diarrhea or it may be a dewormer. This can be a sign of a respiratory infection and nasal congestion. It can also be a sign of a corneal ulcer or other trauma to the eye that can be causing pain. Since he is not eating and has potential to have an ulcer, it is best if he gets seen at an emergency clinic tonight to get medication started before he gets dehydrated.

This is probably an upper respiratory infection. it's very common in young cats and is very contagious to other cats as well. It is treated with antibiotic eye drops/ointment and oral antibiotics for about 2 weeks. if left untreated many cats will end up blind or even die from the disease. I advise going to your vet asap to start the treatment right away.

Poor Satin. : ( Closing of the eyes along with mucous discharge are signs of an eye infection. Eye infections in cats can be caused by an underlying viral infection or from some sort of corneal trauma (ulcer, scratch). Satin needs prescription eye antibiotic ointment to clear this up. Your vet can do a quick eye stain to diagnose the underlying problem and get him the necessary medication he needs, so schedule an appt with your vet within the next 24 hrs to get this taken care of quickly before the eye worsens. Hello there, This white film is the third eyelid. This can be raised for eye pain, conjunctivitis, infections, or herpes viral flares. I also see that Gussie's eye is being held closed. This is called blepharospasm and is a sign of pain. Many cats will become lethargic during viral flares, so if Gussie has experienced herpetic conjunctivitis flares like this before it may be a self resolving situation. I do always recommend using some type of lubricating +/- antibiotic ointment or drop on their eyes during these flares to prevent an ulcer or serious secondary infection from occurring, as well as for pain relief and faster healing. These flares commonly occur during times of stress, such as a move or a new person or pet in the home. However, these flares can also be a signal of underlying immune suppression, such as that from disease or cancer. I'd recommend having Gussie seen by his vet tomorrow so that you can be sure there is no underlying disease predisposing to this. Hopefully it will just be an exam and picking up some eye medications for him.
