What do Erythromycin, Baytril, Famciclovir treat for my cat?

Test him for feline leukemia (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) at your veterinarian's clinic to rule these possible causes out. Some cats will have chronic viral infections their entire life and we just treat these as they come. If you are not giving lysine supplementation and not giving Purine Fortiflora, I would definitely recommend doing so as both of these have been shown to lessen the severity and duration of the herpes virus flare ups. I would also consider an upper respiratory culture to make sure that there are no other bacterial causes that may be resistant to the antibiotics currently being given. I hope this helps! This is probably an upper respiratory infection. it's very common in cats and is very contagious to other cats as well. It is treated with oral antibiotics for about 2 weeks (Not baytril). if left untreated many cats will end up blind or even die from the disease. I advise going to your vet asap to start the treatment right away.

It may be time to request referral to a veterinary ophthamologist if Bean's regular vet has been unable to adequately treat his eye problems. Cat eye infections can start from viral infections so often an anti-viral eye drop or oral medication may be needed in conjunction with antibiotic drops. I hope this helps.

If the infection goes that far, we often use antibiotics tablets (sometimes two different types at the same time, as Melcho is having now) and strong anti-inflammatory medications, usually steroids. You should get in touch with your vets again, as it sounds that your Melcho is struggling at the moment and he may benefit from more aggressive therapy.

If the eye discharge is clear then an infection is not present, so you don't have to use the eye gel (erythromycin). Instead you should use an anti-viral supplement such as Lysine gel/powder from your local pet store or vet clinic. Cats are prone to viral infections which can cause watery eye discharge and reddish discharge. The use of antibiotics is only needed when a secondary infection is also present. Lysine powder/gel can be given throughout Richard's lifespan to help boost her immune system and help ward off future viral infections (i.e. herpesvirus).

Ear infections in cats can be caused by bacteria, yeast, or ear mites, so it's extremely important to get the cause of the ear infection diagnosed in order for the cat to be treated properly. Hello. I think the Azithromycin was a good next choice for an antibiotic. Clyde's bloodwork is not indicative of anything significant, although one of his kidney parameters is elevated. Blood markers for chronic infection/inflammation are in the high normal range, too, but we would expect this with a chronic fever. If he does not respond to this go round of antibiotics, a disease panel may be necessary, but make sure your vet also sends off some blood smears to see if any blood parasites can be identified.
