Why is my cat eating twice as much new dry food all of a sudden?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 6 years and 4 months old | 14.3 lbs

What's your opinion on the dry food Dexter is currently being fed. He's eating twice as much as the previous food. I've attached some photos

This food appears to be a good cat food. It is possible that Dexter is eating more food because he likes the taste better than the previous food, or that it is less calorie dense that his previous food. Other causes for increased appetite can be metabolic disorders like hyperthyroidism or diabetes. I would recommend feeding based on the guidelines written on the bag and having a checkup with your regular vet to rule out internal medicine issues.
