This can be a sign of a vitamin or mineral deficiency, anemia, kidney disease or feline leukemia in Miley, and I would have her seen by a vet for a physical exam, blood tests, and a urinalysis. Unfortunately, these signs are rather vague, and can be caused by a number of conditions including hair balls, intestinal parasites, inappropriate diet, and other more serious conditions such as certain cancers. I recommend having Mel seen by his vet to determine exactly what is going on. You can try feeding a bland diet at home, making sure he gets plenty of water, and grooming Mel to limit hair balls. I would make sure you are feeding Floof a well balanced diet of cat food. If he is on this already then I would recommend trying the Breeze litter box. I would get him in as soon as you can, but not necessarily as an emergency. It could probably wait until Monday. There good be an infected tooth, inflammation in the gums, a small ulcer or mass, or something else causing this behavior.
