My cat wants pork. Is cooked pork safe for cats to eat as a treat?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Female | spayed | 10 years and 3 months old | 10 lbs

Is pork safe for cats? I remember my mom always saying to never give pork to cats, but I've never been able to confirm or debunk this claim, although I've also never seen pork as an ingredient in any cat food.

Fully-cooked pork should be fine to give in moderation as a treat and with any fat cut off and bones removed. However, as with any people food, it is best to only give it as a treat and feed your cat a regular balanced diet for her meals.
