My cat got ear mite medicine in ear. Is flushing with water safe?

Most likely this won't hurt her because there is very limited absorption to the system from medications applied into the ear. Just wipe out the excess with a cotton ball or paper towel and flush the eyes with sterile eye wash if you suspect any could have gotten in there. She should be fine.

If your vet gave you the ear drops for the mites then I would follow their instructions. If a vet didn't give you the ear drops, do not use them. Pyrethrins are toxic to cats. Do not use any shampoo on a cat that doesn't say specifically on the label that it can be used in cats. Frontline is safe in cats but I would suggest using revolution since Revolution gets ear mites. If you are noticing redness after the treatment, stop using it. Duchess could be having a reaction to the medication. Revolution applied to the back of the neck will kill ear mites but the treatment must continue for 2-3 months. Use a routine ear cleaner during this time to help clean out the ear wax. Other treatments are also available for ear mite treatment. I recommend to talk with your veterinarian about alternative treatments. You may want to consider treating the ear mites with a different medication which is applied to the base of the neck instead of inside the ears. This product is called Revolution and is a prescription medication you can get from your veterinarian that can be used to treat ear mites in cats. Might be a better alternative in Muffin's case. Yes, it's safe to use Revolution on cat with ear mites, but your cat will still need to see the vet the aural hematoma. Revolution will not treat that, only the ear mites, and the hematoma will likely need to be drained and the ear flap sutured to prevent it from reoccurring. Please take your cat into the vet tomorrow if possible.

I would caution against using Hartz to treat ear mites. That's because it's an OTC medication, and it will not be as effective as medication you can get from the vet. I would recommend getting Revolution. It's a spot on flea treatment that also kill ear mites. You don't put it into their ears, but apply it on the back of the head where they can't lick it. I recommend using that on Benji.

Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent further trauma. Have him examined by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER. He may need antibiotics for infection as well as pain management. Once the infection is under control, an ear mite medication can be administered. Acarexx is a mite specific medication that will kill most mites with a single treatment. Severe cases may need multiple treatment. Topicals such as Revolution or Advantage Multi may also be used to treat mite infection.
