What to do if my cat is dying, in pain, and I can't afford a vet?

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I am sorry that Mystic is so sick. Unfortunately there are no pain-free ways that you can perform euthanasia at home. I recommend calling your clinic, or the emergency clinic in your area. If you explain that Mystic is very sick and needs to be put down, but you don't have money for this, most clinics will euthanize at no cost so that the animals are not suffering. Try a few if the first clinic says no. You can also try a humane society. If you say that you know Mystic needs to be put down, and don't want a consult but he is suffering, they should be able to help you and Mystic.

I understand you love your kitty! Do the best you can. If you can't take her to a vet for care, make sure you give her as much love and affection as you can, and make sure she always has fresh water and food available, and a cozy bed. I wish I could tell you that you can heal her at home but I don't think this is possible, so take the best care of her and your other critters as you can :) . I wish you the best!

Unfortunately nothing. Many human pain medications are toxic to cats, and cause death themselves, but it's not a pain free death. Giving them human pain medications will make things much worse. Dying is not a pain free process and if Skyler is dying, taking him into a vet immediately to put him to sleep will be the kindest thing for him. Please take him into a vet now.

I am so sorry for your heartache, I know how difficult this time is. You have a couple of options to consider. 1) Let her pass at home. Make sure she's got a warm comfortable bed, allow her to be propped into a whatever position seems most comfortable. If she's having any difficulty breathing, it may help to prop her so that she's sort of lying on her chest, (so the breastbone is on the surface)--this allows both of her lungs to expand most comfortably. There is no medication that I can advise you to give her, but just being with her is the best thing you can do to make her comfortable. You can keep things she really likes (a cat toy she used to love, etc) and familiar scents (one of your worn t-shirts,etc) in the bed with her. Don't try to force her to eat or drink. 2) Call an emergency clinic. They likely have 24/7 full services, including euthanasia. Additionally, they may be able to refer you to "on-call" in home euthanasia services in your area. More and more of these at home services are available 24 hrs in metropolitan areas. Costs will vary, but will be more expensive than taking her in to your family veterinarian, due to the 24/7 service. You and your kitty are in my thoughts. I am so sorry about Didi, from what you are describing I am afraid you might be correct; she may be dying. If at all possible, get her to a vet right away. Otherwise, just try to keep her as comfortable as possible until she passes. I am so sorry, but there isn't anything I can really offer in terms of a solution to save her; if she is that ill she will need intensive medical attention at this point if she is going to live, and even at that she may not make it.

Poor kitty! It does sound like he has suffered an injury, and it's quite serious that he isn't going to the bathroom, eating, or drinking. He sounds like he is very painful, and unfortunately he has to see a vet immediately. He will need pain meds, and you cannot give him any human ones. That's because many are toxic to cats, and are fatal if given. In order to treat him correctly, he has to be diagnose by a vet, and there truly isn't anything you can do for him at home. Attempting to self treat him without knowing the cause of his symptoms is never recommended, as you may accidentally do harm to him. I would see if you can find a friend to drive you into a vet now. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. Hello. It sounds like at the very least she needs pain medications and may have internal injuries or fractures. She needs to see a vet as she is likely in pain. I would call your local clinic and explain your situation. Some places may be able to provide pain relief at no cost. Also, you can ask about charity groups or surrendering her.
