My cat's bottom lip is droopy. Is it serious if he's acting normal?

Cats can sometimes get the same kinds of mouth and lip diseases that people get. Perhaps she bumped it against something or scraped it on rough surface as she was being curious. Another reason for swollen lips are possible allergic reactions to insect bites or noxious substances. In addition, dental disease or improper teeth occlusion can can cause lip abrasions. My best advice is this: As long as she is eating, drinking, and playing normally, give the lip 3 days to improve and get smaller. If there is no improvement in that time, or if the lip gets bigger in the meantime, please have her seen by your veterinarian for a thorough oral examination. I hope this helps. From what I can see, it look like the lip is drooping. This could be caused by swelling in the area (from trauma, snake bite, infection), nerve damage to the face, head, or neck, broken bones, etc. I would recommend taking Jerry to the vet for evaluation to see what is going on.

I hate to hear that Leo is uncomfortable. I would think this is likely an infection, either of the skin or the tooth itself. Less likely would be a cancer. I would recommend to take him in to see the veterinarian who may be able to tell the difference based on a physical exam and can provide appropriate medication and pain relief. Looks like a condition called esosinophilic granuloma complex which can occur in cats. It appears like it should be very painful. If you notice he is eating or grooming less, these are signs he is uncomfortable. Sometimes this is caused by an allergy. I would recommend changing food bowls and try a hypoallergenic diet. Ultimately seeing your veterinarian to have a biopsy performed to confirm the diagnose and starting some medications will be needed to help resolve the swelling. Good luck !

From the blurry picture, it is tough to say for sure what this is but it looks as though there is a ulcerated sore on the upper right lip. This looks as though it could be consistent with an indolent ulcer, which is part of a disease known as Eosinophilic Granuloma Complex (EGC). The cause of EGC is typically unknown but treatment is generally steroid therapy (topical and systemic). Generally, an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory are used to treat these. Also, if Leo is drinking / eating out of plastic bowls, switch to metal or ceramic to see if this helps. Many times, these lesions pop up for no known reason and go away after treatment. These lesions may not show up for months to years later once initially resolved. If this sore is not improving, I would have a veterinarian take a look at it so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps!

Hello, it does not look like cyanosis. When pets become cyanotic, they are typically in severe respiratory distress and close to expiring. In patients with heart conditions, this commonly occurs when they are in congestive heart failure. With Leo's respiration rate being normal then I would be less concerned with Leo having cyanosis. Continue to monitor his respirations for any increase in resting respiratory rate. Some cats may develop coughing as well. Hope this helps and best of luck.
