Can I give my cat doxycycline for URI if she also has tapeworms?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Bobtail Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 11 lbs

Recently 2 of my adult cat's had to be treated for uri and was given doxycycline to treat. I'm in a very bad financial situation and now one of my other adult cat's is showing the same symptoms of a uri but I just realized she has tapeworms and I am wondering if I can give her the doxycycline with her having the tapeworms until i can order some profender online. My vet want help me and I can't afford to pay for another visit. I just need to know if it will be ok to give my baby girl the doxy.

Hi there. I can't legally advise you to give a prescription medication to any pet without an exam. But, in general, I can tell you that there should not be any problem with using doxycycline in a cat that also happens to have tapeworms. The tapeworms do not affect the medication one way or the other.
