Can a diet change cause my cat's gagging, diarrhea, and croaky voice?

Hello, sorry to hear about Willy, it certainly does sound as if something could be going on. With his clinical signs, you may choose to investigate any abnormalities within the GI tract but also diseases outside of the GI tract. This can be done with baseline bloodwork, x-rays of his belly and even an abdominal ultrasound. Most likely rule outs would be a viral or parasitic infection, inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, liver disease, or pancreatitis. Have your veterinarian evaluate Willy if these signs persist as soon as possible. Hope this helps and best of luck

Sometimes a raspy voice in a cat could be due to a respiratory infection. It’s sounds like Barney is getting better, so I would hold off on a vet for now. If the raspiness gets worse or he develops other signs such as lethargy, anorexia, coughing, or sneezing, then I would take him into the vet. I hope this helps!

Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. Sometimes loss of voice can be seen in cats that are very weak. I recommend that you have Teddy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Voice change can be caused by many things. Cats do not get colds like people do. Most cats are exposed to several upper respiratory viruses over their lifetime that can flare up occasionally causing sneezing, runny eyes or nose, and occasionally voice change. A change can also occur with anything going on with the larynx (voice box) including trauma, masses (benign or malignant), nerve or muscle disorders, etc. Additionally some cats who have asthma or heartworm disease may manifest this with a voice change. So, if your kitty is exhibiting any other symptoms and/or is not feeling well the best plan would be to have your family vet examine her. While it can not be determined for sure, it would definitely seem that the food resulted in either an upset stomach, an allergic reaction, or a mixture of the two. The vomiting could have certainly irritated the lining of the throat and resulted in the some pain / discomfort. Another consequence of vomiting however that is far more serious is if an of the vomit was inhaled accidentally into the lungs. This can result in pneumonia and the various consequences of such a condition. Since his condition has persisted for a number of days now even after switching back to the old food, I would say that it is time to have him examined by a veterinarian to make sure there is nothing else going on that's requires addressing. They may want to obtain some blood work or imaging to ensure you that there are no serious problems. Hope this helps.

If all four are experiencing the same symptoms, I would be suspicious that they have eaten something toxic that has upset their stomach (drooling is a sign of nausea), and the voice change could be due to vomiting that you may have not seen. Cats like to chew on plants, and oftentimes, there are plants around the house and yard that are toxic to cats, but the owners do not know they are toxic. They also could have eaten an insect or some rotten food that is causing their symptoms. Given that all four are showing these symptoms, I would check any plants in the house and yard (if they are allowed outside) for toxic plants, and remove them. Given they are still eating, I would monitor them for now, and if the drooling and voice changes continue over the next 24-48 hours, I would take them all into the vet for an exam.

Your cat could be upset about the kitten but I am concerned about the length of time he has not eaten. Cats can become sick with a disease called Hepatic Lipidosis or "fatty liver" when they start using fat for energy because they do not have any food in their stomach to digest. Piku could be sick from the chemicals, sick from the new kitten even though the kitten is healthy or just be sick from something else. He should be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible.
