My 6-month-old cat has diarrhea and is pooping in the shower.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Milo! Is Milo's stool normal? or is he having diarrhea? If his stool is normal he needs to be litter box trained. Confine him to a room with a litter box, food and water. He stays in this room until he uses the litter box to defecate at least for 1 week then let him out. But keep the litter box in that room so he knows where it is. Over time gradually move the litter box to where you want it to be. You can also use litter attractants. If Milo is having diarrhea causes can be: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, food allergy/intolerance, dietary indiscretion, toxin ingestion. I would schedule a Vet appointment for Monday if he has diarrhea to start medications. Bring a stool sample. I hope this helps and I wish Milo the best!

The diarrhea can be a result of his underlying gastrointestinal disease or a separate new problem. He may have urinated outside of the box as he is not feeling well. Diarrhea is usually accompanied by urgency and an increased frequency of defecation. This makes it difficult for young kittens to make it to the box in time. They will need to see their veterinarian and have fecal testing performed. From there medication can be prescribed. Once the diarrhea is resolved, I suspect they will use their box again. Issues with faeces such as these can be indicative of issues in the gut. It could just be inflammation such as gastroenteritis or colitis, but sometimes it can indicate problems such as inflammatory bowel disease or tumours etc. You could try adding a probiotic to both of their feed and see if that helps, but I think it would be worth taking them both to the vet for an exam if it continues for more than a day or so.

Inappropriate defecation can be related to a medical problem, especially if Jake has had diarrhea or blood in his stool or seems painful. This can also be a behavioral problem. I would make sure you have at least 3 litter boxes if you have two cats. Look into Cat Attract litter, and be sure to scoop the boxes 1-2 times a day since some cats won't go in a dirty box. You could also try a pheromone diffuser like Feliway near the boxes if possible. If you're still having problems see your veterinarian to rule out a medical issue. Good luck!

Internal parasites are a common cause for intermittent diarrhea, and may also cause them to exhibit strange behaviors such as pica if they aren't getting enough nutrition due to the parasites. A complete exam is also a good idea to make sure there isn't illness or malnutrition causing the problem as well.

It's possible there is another cat outside who is bullying Harry and is not letting him use the bathroom like he use to. I recommend to use a litter box for now (it's better than cleaning up feces in the house). I also recommend to have Harry examined by the veterinarian and have his stool checked for abnormality. It's possible he is having a sudden urge to go and he can't get outside in time. Since he can't talk, it's best to play it safe.
