My 8-year-old cat is peeing outside box with bloody stool. Vet?

I would inform the owners and ask them their wishes. If they are going to be gone for an extended period, I would feel better if the cat could be seen by a vet before then, since the condition seems to be not improving. They may need to call their vet to authorize you to take the cat in on their behalf. Since you are the sitter, I could see him maybe peeing outside the box in protest to someone else taking care of them, but, unless the cat is extremely sensitive to stress, I wouldn't think a petsitter would be enough to make him have intestinal upset. He could have parasites, a bacterial infection or has eaten something that disagreed with him, among other possibilities. If they will be home in the next day or so they may want to get him seen themselves and as long as he continues to eat and drink and behave normally, that should be okay.

It sounds as Tiggert is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Poor kitty! In a 13 year old cat, I strongly suspect that she has a medical problem causing these issues. Some common possible causes would include hyperthyroidism, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease. I would recommend taking her to the vet for an exam as soon as you are able to - he/she can do blood work and a urinalysis to help diagnose the problem and get her started on appropriate medication to treat it.

I hate to hear that Jet is giving you such a scare! Yes, I would recommend to take Jet into the veterinarian's office today. The blood is either from his rectum or his bladder. The doctor need to check a urinalysis and will give him medication. Urinary tract infections, crystals in the urine, sterile cystitis and bladder stones can all cause bleeding in the urinary tract. These conditions are also painful (which cats can hide). I would recommend to take in a stool sample just in case the doctor wants to look at that as well. Blood in the stool indicates significant inflammation in the intestines and is treated with antibiotics to prevent the bacteria from moving into the blood stream. Even though he is acting healthy, he is clearly not. He could have parasites, a virus, kidney disease, GI disease, diabetes- it really is a long list of things to rule out. He isn’t going in the box because he is equating the box to the discomfort he is having with his diarrhea. I hope you are able to find the cause of his illness and get him feeling better soon. Medical issues like this are a very common cause of pooping outside the litter box, so it's likely that the underlying problem will need to be diagnosed and treated in order to stop this behavior. Some possible causes of blood in the stool, along with accidents outside the litter box, would include an intestinal infection of some kind, intestinal parasites, a GI issue like pancreatitis or colitis, a food allergy or intolerance to something in his diet, or inflammatory bowel disease. I would recommend taking Champ to the vet for an exam and some testing to help determine what's wrong - take a fecal sample with you if you can, so that it can be checked for parasites. Your veterinarian may also suggest lab work or other testing if needed, and will prescribe appropriate medication to treat the problem depending on what is found.

I would be very concerned that Pancho could have severe intestinal issues associated with the ingested thread. I am so glad you cut the thread and did not pull, as pulling can cause a lot of damage internally. Unfortuately, there is nothing that I can recommend for his current symptoms, since they may be related to the thread. This should be addressed by a veterinarian. Watch for other symptoms such as lethargy, poor appetite, bloating, panting, or increased respiratory rate. The pooping outside the litterbox may be related to the pain that Pancho is feeling when he has a bowel movement. Cats will sometimes think that pain associated with going potty is caused by the box and will decide to stop using the box.
