My cat's diarrhea won't stop after food change. Is it thyroid?

There are many potential causes of diarrhea in a cat, and to treat the diarrhea you would need to identify the cause. Hyperthyroidism could certainly cause diarrhea so if you are waiting on lab work, or waiting for thyroid medication to take effect you may want to give it a little more time. It sounds like your veterinarian has potentially recommended some other treatments for diarrhea like a diet change to rule out a food sensitivity. Inflammatory bowel disease, infectious diseases or an intestinal mass could also cause diarrhea, so you may want to talk to your veterinarian about what the next diagnostic step might be - they might recommend an abdominal ultrasound or advanced fecal testing. If you have not tried a probiotic or antibiotics for the diarrhea you may want to ask your vet if they would help while you're waiting on diagnostic test results.

My cat with thyroid isn't eating & has bloody diarrhea. What to do?

Poor Patches! It does sound like she's extremely sick. I would recommend taking her to an emergency vet tonight if you are able to, since it may not be safe to wait until morning if she is having bloody diarrhea and hasn't eaten in two days. The vet there can do blood work or other testing if needed to help determine what needs to be done. She may need to have her thyroid medication adjusted, or she may have some other problem such as diabetes or kidney failure that will need to be treated as well.

Why does my cat still have liquid diarrhea after antibiotics?

Alfie could have a parasite, infection, inflammatory bowel disease, hyperthyroidism, liver/kidney disease, etc. Since it has been a week, it would be a good idea to have full blood work, fecal test, and x-rays done to rule out potential causes. I would also recommend switching to a hypoallergenic diet, like d/d, and see if that helps. A medication called Proviable KP may also help. If your vet didn't already prescribe Metronidazole (Flagyl) than that could be tried, too. If the diarrhea persists than an intestinal biopsy may be needed.

My cat has chronic diarrhea but acts normal. What should I do?

I would recommend that you have Bella examined by a vet. Chronic diarrhea in cats can have many causes, including hyperthyroidism, IBD, intestinal lymphoma, intestinal parasites, etc. The vet will do an exam and may recommend lab work like blood work or fecal intestinal parasite screens. Depending on the suspected cause, they can then recommend a treatment. Note that some causes of diarrhea are difficult to diagnose and it can take several attempts at treatment to find something that works for that individual patient.

My 9-year-old cat has diarrhea and is losing weight. How can I help?

If this was caused by a food change I would expect him to be back to normal by now. There may be something else underlying going on here that is the cause of Zebco's diarrhea and weight loss, such as intestinal parasites, pancreatic disease, diabetes, or even thyroid disease. I would recommend taking him to your vet for a through examination and potential tests (bloodwork, fecal exam), to hopefully identify the underlying problem so that he is treated appropriately. In the meantime I would suggest feeding Zebco a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese to help settle his stomach a bit. You can also try adding 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) in his food daily to add fiber and help harden the stools up. Best wishes with Zebco and I hope he feels better soon.
