My Ragdoll cat has diarrhea for 5 days, now with blood. Is it serious?

She may have have something like coccidia or Giardia causing this issue, and those can take a while to treat. I'd take her back to the vet in the morning. Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Sansa! Since Sansa has been sick for a week you need to take her to the Vet today. Especially with tomorrow being Thanksgiving. Causes of diarrhea and vomiting are: intestinal parasites, viral and bacterial infections, pancreatitis, toxin ingestion, dietary indiscretion, food allergy or intolerance. Blood in the stool indicates inflammation in the colon and makes antibiotics necessary to prevent secondary bacterial translocation in to the blood stream. Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. I suggest you have him dewormed and I would also start him on a probiotic (Fortiflora). If you do those two things and the diarrhea doesn't start to resolve in a few days then you need to take him to a vet for an exam. If you use that again in the future and the diarrhea starts again then you can probably confidently say that it is the issue in which case I would stop using it. Usually if that is the case the diarrhea starts within 24 hours of administration. Two weeks later, it is not likely. The new food is also possibly the culprit but again, you didn't switch cold turkey and it doesn't sound like he is eating that much of it anyway. Again, possible but not likely. Hope this helps. Garfield seems to be suffering from a severe gastrointestinal condition, i do not recommend to stop feeding him, this can do more harm than good in cats, you need to take him to the vet as soon as you can in order to get treated, he will probably need an antibiotic course , a special prescription food and some meds to stop the diarrhea.

I'm assuming Munchkin is a cat. If he has had diarrhea for over a few days, I would recommend to take him into the veterinarian. He will likely get probiotics and an antibiotic. He also needs a fecal examine to check for parasites so be sure to bring a fresh stool sample. At 13 years old, diarrhea can also indicate renal or hepatic issues. If you have not had bloodwork run on him in the past few months, it would be worthwhile to get his levels checked to be safe. At home, try feeding him boiled chicken and white rice. This is a nice bland diet (if he will eat it). I hope this helps!

I wouldn't really be worried about this at this stage. The purple color may be a bit of digested blood but it could also be due to some colon irritation. I suggest you continue what you are doing and if it persists then you should call your vet to ask them about it. They have more information about her health than we do. My only other suggestion is to put her on a probiotic: like Advita or Fortiflora. This should help with the diarrhea. Diarrhea is a common problem with cats and is usually self-limiting (will go away on its own). Usually it's not serious, but it's always possible that it could be the start of something serious. If she has any of the following, then she should see a vet: 1) Blood in diarrhea 2) Very watery diarrhea 3) Starts acting very depressed 4) Stops eating or drinking for longer than 24 hours. 5) Diarrhea lasts longer than three days. You can help her get through this by feeding bland food (i.e. boneless cooked chicken). Feed small portions (1/4 cup or less) at meal time. You can also add probiotics to the food (can get this at the pet store), which has demonstrated some efficacy for improving diarrhea. Ensure fresh, clean water is always available.
