My cat is sick. What are the symptoms of cat diabetes or a UTI?

You should take Kizzie back to a veterinarian for a proper thorough exam, with a urinalysis and blood work. Diabetes does not often have obvious signs, nor does kidney disease. Both of those can be ruled out with blood tests and urinalysis. Most cats with a UTI do not need antibiotics as most times it is stress induced. All the more it is important to verify that bacteria are involved before prescribing antibiotics. You may want to get a second opinion from another veterinarian.

I would be concerned about either diabetes or hyperthyroidism in Fuu. The symptoms you described can be seen with both of these diseases that usually affect older cats. I would recommend taking Fuu in to your vet to have some blood work performed. This simple test can distinguish between these two diseases. If she has diabetes she will need insulin injections daily and hyperthyroidism can be easily treated with a daily medication as well. Good luck!

However there are many other reasons for increased thirst in a cat, including kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, or urinary tract infection. I recommend taking her to the veterinarian where she can have bloodwork to determine if she is diabetic or not. I would be concerned by the lack of normal urination in a diabetic pet - they are very prone to urinary tract infections due to higher than normal sugar content in their urine which can encourage bacterial infection. I strongly recommend a urine test to determine exactly what is going on. Your vet may have special cat litter to collect a urine sample or may be able to draw a sample directly from the bladder with a needle in order to investigate fully what is going on

Diabetes could be an issue with your cat, especially if she has lost weight recently. Other diseases to consider include hyperthyroidism, renal failure, and cancer, all which could cause the symptoms you are describing. The only way to know for sure if Ashton has a UTI is to take him into the vet for a physical exam, blood tests, and a urinalysis. This is confirm the presence of a UTI, and the vet can prescribe antibiotics to treat it. If you think Ashton has a UTI, I would take him into the vet first thing in the morning.

Yes, I think that you should have Ember checked out by a vet. While diabetes is not terribly common in cats of her age, it is still possible. Other possible causes of increased thirst include kidney disease, UTI, or behavioral change. Diabetes and kidney disease can easily be screened for with routine bloodwork and urinalysis.
