My cat has a deep, oozing wound. Does she need vet stitches?

This wound needs immediate attention from a vet as it is fairly large. If it is treated quickly before infection sets in it may simply be a case of a few skin staples. If the wound is older the cat will likely need an anaesthetic to fix the wound properly and antibiotics. Your dad has a responsibility as a pet owner to get her appropriate treatment. You should also think about preventative treatment for ticks.

Poor Claws! I don't think you should let that heal without treatment and should take him to a vet. Your vet can clean the wound and then suture it so it heals properly. He will also need an antibiotic to prevent infection.

Antibiotic ointment may not by enough to treat it and Collic possibly will need a course of antibiotic in form of tablets to get back to normal. I would recommend Collic to be checked over by your local vets to fully assess the wound and to recommend the best treatment option.

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). It may heal on its own, even though it will take few days. Disinfection may be done at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths twice daily. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. If the wound will not heal/or at least improve in 5 days, a check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I do not think Toby needs stitches. I would recommend shaving the fur away and cleaning with mild soap and water. Use an Elizabethan collar (cone) or donut to prevent licking. Ideally Toby should be started on an antibiotic. If Toby is an indoor/outdoor cat, this likely a ruptured abscess from a cat fight. Keep indoors until healed. Cats heal quickly! I hope this helps and I wish Toby a speedy recovery!

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is hard to say without seeing Coco, but it sounds like she might have an abscess that has burst. These require cleaning and flushing with sterile saline, and then require both pain medications as well as antibiotics to heal. Gentian Violet will not fix them. I would recommend taking Coco to the vet as soon as you can. Best of luck with Coco.

I would recommend a vet visit for Tammy, given the location of this wound she will likely need some anabiotic's to prevent infection. Depending on if it appears to be a bite wound when the vet examined her they may recommend pestering her rabies vaccine as well.
