My cat's poop is dark green. Is it from the new food or serious?

I am sorry to hear about Felix's stool problems! We can see loose stools or color changes in stool as a result of a change in food (even if you are feeding the same brand, a different flavor may have different ingredients or coloring agents). If Felix's energy level is normal and he has no vomiting, then you can try switching him back to his original food and seeing if his stools return to normal after a few days,or you can try picking up a probiotic at the pet store and see if this improves the stools. If these do not work, a trip to the vet is recommended (or if he starts vomiting/stops eating/is lethargic). In the future, if you want to switch foods it is recommended to do so gradually, slowly mixing the new food in with the old food.

Green color could be from something Potchie ingested or a sign of infection. If the stool is loose in any way as well, then I would suggest doing a dewormer on kitty. You can find one at your local pet store. However, it is still a good idea to get Potchies stool checked by your vet since not all intestinal parasites are treated with just 1 type of dewormer. Fecal color can be a variety of colors depending upon the age, breed, dietary intake, or possibly disease. And yes, Green feces can sometimes be a normal finding in kittens. However, the fact that some of this tool is soft concerns me. This is not normal. In my opinion, I would make an appointment with your veterinary clinic to have a physical examination performed. At this appointment, the vet may want to run tests such as a fecal smear, Giardia test, fecal analysis, etc. just to make sure that your cat does not have any problems that are causing the soft stool. Stress can definitely cause changes in eating, drinking, and stool habits, however the green color makes me worry that there may be an underlying health issue as well. Green stools can sometimes indicate issues such as too-fast of transit time in the bowels (so the normal bile isn't broken down into its usual brown color), liver or gall issues, pancreas issues, illnesses caused by bacteria, or ingesting something that is greenish or dyed in color. I would offer Keanu a bland diet of some boiled chicken to see if that helps resolve the diarrhea (and give him some extra attention and care, since cats deal with loss and grief just as much as people) and continue to monitor his stools. If the diarrhea or strange stool colors continue, bringing Keanu and a sample of his stool to your vet is a good idea to rule out more serious issues.

Loose stools can be from a number of things including food allergies, parasites, underlying illness, changes in diet, etc. If you haven't changed Felix's food at all, and he's still having loose stool, bringing him or a sample of his stool into your vet for a complete exam and fecal test is a good idea to help rule out common issues.

Stool can change color based on what a dog has eaten. Button may have gotten into something in the yard or snatched some people food or had his diet changed. There are some less likely metabolic issues that can cause very green stool but in the absence of other signs I would not be too worried about this. As long as Buttons is acting normal and his stools are formed (not runny or soft) I would not worry.
