My cat is coughing, lethargic, not eating, and has a bloated stomach. Should I worry?

I understand you are concerned about FIP. The reality is, if you don't have money for a veterinary visit (and in many cases even if you did), FIP is typically fatal and untreatable. The best thing you can do is separate your sick cat from your healthy one and see how things transpire over the course of the next few days. Typically, cats with FIP, regardless of the form, will be inappetant and not wanting to eat anything at all. The worst form of it will cause massive fluid buiid up in the chest / abdomen and result in difficulty breathing. The other form typically produce clinical signs that are both ophthalmic and/or neurologic, plus several other non specific clinical signs (a couple of which include what you are descrbing). Overall, FIP would not be near the top of my list. I would definitely make sure all three cats have been tested for leukemia and AIDS however in order to rule both of these life-threatening conditions. While not as rapidly fatal as FIP, both conditions can carry poor long term prognosis. It sounds like the one cat with a fever and swollen belly might benefit from pain management and a recheck for the presence of worms. While dietary indiscretion could be an issue, it is not likely to cause a fever unless an infectious organism was present in the food. Hope this is more helpful than my previous response.

Given that Tota is not vaccinated, I would be very concerned that his symptoms may be due to something more serious such as FIP. This is a fatal viral disease of cats that causes fluid accumulation in the abdomen. Tota needs to see a vet immediately. His symptoms are very serious and require immediate medical attention.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! From the X-rays, I can see that Mara's abdomen appears to be filled with fluid. It is obscuring his liver and intestines from being seen and there may even be a small amount in his lungs. Unfortunately it is impossible to tell what the fluid is from the x-ray alone. His blood work shows some abnormalities with his electrolytes, which may be if he is not eating or from fluid in the abdomen. Mara also has a high white blood cell count, these are the cells that are responsible for fighting off infections and increase if there is one present. Your vet can run some additional diagnostics, and perform a tap and remove the fluid as well as a blood test to determine if Mara is infected with FIP, a mutated form of a common virus that cats are exposed to. It sounds like there could be a few things going on with Whiskers. He could have a respiratory infection causing the heavy breathing, cough, and sneezing. The bump could be a growth, either benign or malignant, a cyst, or a lipoma. I"d have him seen by a vet for these problems to have this diagnosed and treated. Best of luck.

Without a physical exam, it is difficult. Have Sir Watson examined by your veterinarian. Discuss respiratory infection (viral or bacterial) as well as possible polyps. This could explain the respiratory symptoms. Submit a stool sample to diagnose intestinal parasites or bacterial overgrowth and review the diet to determine the cause of his flatulence. A veterinary probiotic, such as ProStora, ProViable or FortiFlora, may promote GI health.

These are very concerning symptoms, and could fit several serious issues, such as GI obstruction, internal bleeding, infection, cancer, etc. I would recommend having Lily examined by a vet. After physical examination, the vet may recommend diagnostics such as blood work or x-rays to determine the best possible treatment.

A bloated belly and signs of upper respiratory infection in a cat that later passed away sound like a potential FIP (Feline infectious peritonitis) infection, which is caused by a coronavirus. This is a very contagious disease that can cause death in cats very quickly and it has several forms of the disease including a "dry" non-effusive form and a "wet" effusive form, with varying outcomes depending on the pets current health status. Your kitties need to be seen by your local vet asap for testing and supportive care treatment. Their outcome depends on what form of FIP they have, if they have any other concurrent illnesses (i.e. Feline leukemia virus) and how quickly they are treated. Other possibilities is a toxicity, or other infectious disease. I hope your fur babies get treated right away and can recover.
