Why is my cat coughing but acting normal and eating/drinking?

It sounds like Loki may have some rhinitis (inflammation of the nasal passage) issues. It sounds stable for now, but it is still best to get him examined by your vet for just an overall health assessment sometime in the next week or so. Definitely get him seen sooner if the coughing becomes more frequent. The coughing could indicate a parasite problem or an undelrying issue with his heart/lungs. Poor kitty. Coughing in cats can be caused by many things unfortunately, including: underlying heart disease, asthma (if wheezing also present), fungal infection, lung worms, etc. We need more information in order to narrow things down. I would suggest taking Mac in to your vet, especially since this cough has been persistent for more than a day or two. The vet will likely want to start off with a radiograph and bloodwork to hopefully diagnose the problem so that we know what Mac needs for treatment. I'm sorry to hear both kitties are coughing. It is possible there could be something in the home such as dust or allergens causing the behavior, or both kitties got into something that is causing some irritation. Moving them to a well-ventilated area may help if there is some sort of irritation ongoing. If the coughing continues, or other symptoms appear, it is a good idea to bring them to your vet for an exam and to rule out any health issues.

Parasites can cause coughing in some cases, so it may be worth getting a broad spectrum dewormer and treating Jarbou. Other causes for coughing can be viral infection (feline upper respiratory complex), bacterial infection, foreign body or asthama/allergies/bronchitis. There really is no good way to know the difference without a vet exam and probably x-rays. Keep watch on his overall health and make sure that he continues to thrive, is on a good quality diet and deworming is a good start. Make sure there is no smoke, oils or other fumes present in his area.
