My cat coughs and sneezes. Could it be asthma if allergy meds fail?

Any of those things could be possibilities, but it would be hard to tell. It would be best to bring Sanoe back to the vet that treated her for asthma before for a complete checkup, bloodwork, X-rays etc to see if the asthma has returned or worsened, and to rule out any other possible issues that could be causing her breathing problems before starting her back on medication. Your vet may recommend a change in medication, or even something else such as an allergy med if allergies are suspected instead.

It is possible that Rhiannon has developed an upper respiratory tract infection that has taken time to develop. Or that she has both an infection and asthma. If those symptoms weren’t there at the time of the appointment, there would be no way to make that diagnosis. Most of these infections are viral and just need to run their course. Cats can commonly have lingering upper respiratory infections. I would recommend that you have your kitty checked out by a vet. They can help diagnose an infection, allergies, or even asthma. Cats have VERY sensitive noses and a strong sense of smell, so I would definitely avoid Vick’s as it can be very irritating to them. Depending on the diagnosis, your vet may recommend steroids, antihistamines, or another treatment that will help him out.

Coughing and wheezing in a younger cat most commonly occurs as a result of asthma, but could also be related to underlying allergies, masses in the chest, or heart disease (although cats with heart disease do not commonly cough). At this point, I do recommend taking your cat back to the vet for another exam and chest x-rays to try to help differentiate (this is not always completely conclusive) between these causes. Poor Coco! He could be coughing due to asthma or a hairball, but it could also be to cardiac disease or a respiratory illness. I would have him seen by a vet for this coughing. The vet can do a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, and x-rays to diagnose what is causing his coughing so he can be treated.

I'm sorry Pumpkin isn't feeling well. Asthma can be difficult to control. Pumpkin needs to be on a daily inhaled steroid as well as an oral steroid. You need a rescue inhaler for emergencies. Make sure you aren't using any aerosols or vapors in the home- that means any plug ins, cleaning supplies, smoking, candles, etc. Also, make sure your vet has prescribed a dewormer to rule out parasites that mimic asthma.
